Deputy Director of Security for Parliament (Physical Security) and Head of Members’ Security Support Service

Welcome from Alison Giles

Thank you for your interest in these two roles within my Security team.

The Houses of Parliament is a complex and fascinating place. It upholds traditions and combines practices that date back to the earliest days of our democracy with all the demands of a modern, inclusive and dynamic workplace. With around 19,000 passholders and an annual budget of around one billion pounds, Parliament covers multiple skills from baristas to barristers, from researchers to security officers. It also welcomes and manages hundreds of thousands of visitors a year who come to see the wonderful neo-gothic palace and witness our democracy in action.

Keeping the Parliamentary Estate, Community and all who visit, safe and secure, is self-evidently one of our most important objectives. It is a challenging, multi-faceted and fascinating mission and I take great pride in the way the Parliamentary Security Department works collaboratively with partners across both houses, and with the Metropolitan Police Service, to protect Parliament and all those working and visiting us.

These are great opportunities to contribute to the large and complex security team. To meet the demands of the roles, I am looking for high performing professionals with a strong customer service ethos as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to set strategic objectives, and who can provide evidence of leading, developing and managing a security team.

In return I can offer you a truly inspirational working environment, a challenging and varied agenda, in an organisation going through an exciting time of significant change and the chance to play a very active role in supporting our thriving parliamentary democracy.
